If at all we are looking for
peace of mind, there is no way one can have it through physical
and materialistic objects. What we see or feel by our senses has
certainly a beginning and an end [Adi and Ant]; the only thing
that is infinite is the Inner Self, the Soul. Atman that has
no beginning and no end.
It is just because our inner universe
is accumulated with memories and thoughts that we are unable to
even discover that centre, the source energy [Shakti]. It is
through meditation that one may discover peace and tranquillity
revealing the centre, the Inner Self. Hari Kirtan - a classical
melody is one of the many paths heading towards that inner
source and bliss.

Aarti Darshan. $7.00 |
|
Aarti - is performed at
the end of all ritualistic worship accompanied by the ringing of
bells. The lighted lamp is held in the right hand and is waved
in a clockwise circling motion that illuminates the deity while
the prayers are being recited. The significance of this lies in
the fact that our minds become focused when we see the illumined
form of the Lord in all his beauty. Many devotees close their
eyes while performing the Aarti. This signifies the purpose of
our life to find the Lord within and to become one with Him.
Therefore, each one of us is a temple of the Lord, we hold the
Divinity within. Camphor [Kapur] represents our desires and it
is burnt at the end of aarti. Camphor, when it burns, leaves no
residue. Just as it is lit with the fire of knowledge [aarti] we want the Lord to burn our desires and leave not a trace of
Ego. Chanting and regular recitation of these Aartis with faith
and devotion will bring fulfillment of wishes, peace, joy and
happiness in your lives. |

Vrindavan. Songs of
Krishna. $7.00 |
|
To escape being slain by the evil
king of Mathura [Modern Uttar Pradesh], the young child Krishna
was smuggled across the Yamuna River to Gokula [Vraja, modern
Gokul], where the leader of the cowherds, Nanda, and his wife
Yashoda raised him.
The child Krishna, performer of many miracles, was adored for
his mischievous pranks. As a youth, the cowherd Krishna became
renowned as a lover, the sound of his flute prompting the gopis
[wives and daughters of the cow herders] to leave their homes to
dance ecstatically with him in the forests of Vrindavan. His
favourite among them was the beautiful Radha.
The flute bearing Krishna, said to be the eighth avatar of Lord
Vishnu, was and is, the most popular of all Deities. Krishna
became the focus of numerous Bhakti [devotional] cults, which
over the centuries produced a wealth of religious poetry and
music. Thus, Vrindavan became synonymous with Krishna
Consciousness, an abode of pure love, peace and tranquility.
Hema Desai, Devaki Pandit and Sadhana Sargam capture these
divine sentiments in their own inimitable style in this album. |

Vishwa Shanti Mantra.
Devine Chants for World Peace. $7.00 |
|
In the modern world, the meaning
of peace has taken on a very narrow focus. It generally implies
no war, no nuclear weapons, no conflict. We have lived with the
mistaken illusion that peace is in our hands. But the wrath of
nature experienced in recent times leaves us bewildered and
helpless.
The tsunami, the earthquakes, the devastating floods, forest
fires and hurricanes have filled our lives with fear and
uncertainty. In the ancient Upanishads and the Vedas - the
Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda, one
can find numerous mantras that are dedicated solely to peace.
Peace that is all encompassing and all prevailing.
One cannot help but wonder at the foresight and wisdom of the
sages that inspired them to write mantras such as these more
than 5000 years ago, which are so relevant in today's times.
Thus this Vedic invocation of peace gains great contemporary
significance.
Let us introspect and resolve to give our best to restore
harmony and peace around us. |

Sacred
Mantras of India. $7.00 |
|
The practice of meditation has
occurred worldwide since ancient times. The Hindus perfected the
art of sacred chanting that dates back at least 3,000 years and
is probably the world's oldest continuous vocal tradition.
Sacred chanting of the "mantras" or "verses" is the universal
and eternal message of love, harmony and peace: the incantation
of which also leads to spiritual liberation and enrichment of
daily life.
In this 'Sacred Mantras of India' album, some of the most
significant chants and mantras from the Vedas, the Upanishads
and the Bhagawad Gita, prayers for spiritual and meditative
stimulation, have been presented in a musical form exemplifying
various moods. From the majestic morning Raag Bhatiyar to the
deeply contemplative late night raag Bhairavi, these mantras
explore the full gamut of feeling, emotion, passion, commitment
and transcendence that a human being can experience during a
day's cycle. We hope that this Divine musical journey will help
you realize your inner self. |
